DATA FOR AN ECONOMIC INDICATOR CALIBRATED IN SI UNITS


The BicLab SI Standard Commodity Index is a permanently-weighted set of prices of widely traded commodities, designed to represent the daily subsistence requirement for one person living in a large community anywhere in the world. It is made up of four parts.

1. FOOD.
The community purchase the most-traded food commodities for the period 12 months earlier, in proportion to the quantities then traded. Quantities are purchased up to the level at which 2500 food calories have been bought for each citizen each day.

2. POWER
The community purchase 10 kWh of electrical power for each citizen per day.

3. STORED ENERGY
The community purchase the most-traded fuel commodities for the period 12 months earlier, in proportion to the quantities then traded. Quantities are purchased up to the level at which 180 MJ have been bought for each citizen each day.

4. MATERIALS

4.1 The community purchase textile commodities, in proportion to the quantities traded in the same period 12 months earlier, up to the level at which 0.2 kg of material has been purchased for each citizen each day.

4.2 The community purchase metal and rigid polymer commodities in proportion to the quantities traded in the same period 12 months earlier, up to the level at which 0.5 kg of material has been purchased for each citizen each day.
